Drawn from a conventional Vietnamese architectural method using ventilated concrete blocks, the Binh Thanh Residence, a “green” contemporary dream property, was created on a tight urban plot. Created by architect team Vo Trong Nghia and Sanuki + Nishizawa, this 6-level townhouse was constructed for two families and resides in Ho Chi Minh City.
The vertically-driven constructing features volumes stacked with staggered precision, forming distinct garden terraces on varying floors, which permit for breezes, sunlight and greenery to be enjoyed in spite of its populated city place.
The geometric pattern block, while derived from historical design and style, has been modernized offering a modern aesthetic for the program. Sleek cut-outs across the facade allow for plentiful cross-ventilation, while encouraging light to penetrate interior spaces which feature retractable glazing in order to ideal appreciate this. The insets also offer shade for the property, which is crucial in this warm climate. At night, this squared grid artistically illuminates from inside. How beautiful when function and fabulous type harmonize!
The plan enables for 4 bedrooms, two kitchens, a separate dining and living region, house fitness center, then a shared living space. Interiors are sparsely furnished whilst featuring a clean, earthy palette of concrete and wood. These open interiors are exposed on both sides of the house, taking complete advantage of the tropical greenery and natural light. A nearby canal ties into the organic components of this urban dream home.
An amazing serpentine staircase of molded concrete is an eye-catcher, softly offsetting the otherwise hard lines of the modern structure. On the inside, curved concrete ceilings and undulating walls of stone contribute further dimension and interest within the minimalist spaces.
The Binh Thanh House is an unconventional modern day dream residence portraying the ultimate maximization of space, while providing 3 generations a progressive “green” way of life within the landscape of a historic city.
