Having undergone an inspirational renovation, Glass Home is a modern day dream house embodying light and air. Situated in Winchester, Hampshire in South England, this residence by AR Design Studio is a fresh take on contrast with original brickwork fused with walls of glass.
Formerly a dilapidated manor, the residence was extended slightly towards the rear to open up the floor strategy, while a single-story structure was constructed to even out the arrangement, while forming a quaint courtyard. A big terrace with potted trees is slightly elevated over the lawn, facing the trees and surrounding gardens. This spectacular glass addition echoes a greenhouse, which becomes a cheery contribution to this much more conventional estate.
The shared living space is open to the lounging location, dining space and kitchen, all resting inside a glazed box. The effect of stark white walls against the glass is ethereal, with all-natural light pouring into these spaces all through the day.
What is probably most beautiful, is the way the classic brick walls can be thoroughly viewed, not to mention appreciated, from within the new glass addition. These interiors appear to glow and are precisely minimalist, with white-on-white furnishings, smooth pale ceramic flooring, as well as a sleek, stainless steel kitchen. A frameless glazed railing becomes a focal point of this fantastic room, wrapping a set of stairs which descends to the reduced level of the dwelling which features a cellar.
Just a bit further inside the residence, a huge sheet of glass becomes a skylight window in the upstairs hallway of the double-height principal entrance. The staircase here is a masterpiece, appearing more as an art installation, with thick slabs of glass seemingly suspended between the wall and sheet of glass acting as the handrail. A large rustic urn sits behind it, generating a gallery impact inside this otherwise bare space. Spectacular style!
